St Davids' Cathedral © Matt O'Brien

THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT, RAMSEY SOUND, PEMBROKESHIRE

St Davids is Britain’s smallest city, with a cathedral dating back to the 13th Century. St David is the patron saint of Wales and is credited with the conversion of the country to Christianity during the 6th century. The importance of St Davids was regarded so highly that it was said that two pilgrimages here were equal to a single trip to Rome.

The cathedral still draws many people to the area and there is a busy holiday market. In summer, the lanes can become clogged with traffic – not usually a problem when Bitching because the best tides are generally in the evenings – but there are plenty of escape venues if you look for them.

St. Davids is trying to become a true Eco-City and there are numerous plans afoot for energy saving schemes to help it become carbon neutral. If you’re at Whitesands Beach, check out the café energy wall. Visit www.eco-city.co.uk
